Random everythings

Hi There!

As the world marks the 50th Anniversary of JFK’s death, we look at the iconic style of his wife Jackie.

When John F Kennedy took office as US president in January 1961, his wife Jacqueline became one of the youngest ever first ladies. She possessed beauty and brains and she and her designer Oleg Cassini created a winning formula of simple, tailored clothes using fabrics of flattering shades and details that became the epitome of 60s style. The pink Chanel suit and pillbox hat that she wore the day her husband was assassinated in Texas has come to mark a moment in history.

Five years after JFK’s death, Jackie married the Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis. From then on she was often referred to as ‘Jackie O’ and her style became more relaxed and European, favouring French designers such as Givenchy and then the understated elegance of Carolina Herrera. The oversized, ‘bug-eye’ sunglasses she wore to shield her from the prying lenses of the press became her trademark and are copied to this day. Jackie died aged 64 in 1994 but her style, elegance and grace has had a lasting legacy on the fashion world and beyond. Take a look through our gallery to see her key fashion moments and some pieces that are in true Jackie style.

Have a great weekend!
